Fellowship to Faculty

The objective of the fellowships is to provide opportunities to gain advanced training in emerging areas of medical sciences and utilize them for work at AIIMS, New Delhi. These are not meant for attending conferences, society meetings or CMEs. Faculty who demonstrate a commitment to a specific area of work that requires advanced knowledge, provide a specific work-plan with a host who is reputed in that area, and show that the knowledge gained will be put to use at AIIMS New Delhi, will be preferred.

Who can apply:

Regular faculty of AIIMS, New Delhi for a period of at least 3 years

Eligibility criteria:

  • The applicant should be a regular faculty of AIIMS, New Delhi for a period of at least 3 years.
  • The applicant should not have availed any similar fellowship of duration of one month or above from any of the agencies of the GOI/State Govts in the last 3 years.
  • Applications will be invited once every year in Jan-Feb and selected candidates will beannounced in March. The fellowship can be availed anytime during the same financial year (i.e. from 1st April onwards and must be completed before 31st March of the next year). Change of dates will be permitted only in exceptional circumstances.
  • Screening of applications will be done by a committee constituted by the Director, AIIMS New Delhi and the eligible candidates may be invited for a presentation before final award of the fellowship.

Travel in Airlines other than AIR-India allowed (Economy Class only) Travel in Airlines other than authorized travel agents (ATAs) is also allowed.

Advance amount will be given as equivalent in Indian currency and the balance of about 10% will be granted on return after completion of fellowship on submission of utilization certificate.

Guidelines Governing the Fellowship

  • The candidate should correspond with mentor in the International Institute/Laboratory to be visited for their placement. A letter of acceptance from the Mentor/Institute to be visited overseas is required to be produced along with the application form. Once selected, the Fellow will not be allowed to change the mentor/foreign lab other than the one mentioned in the application.
  • The applicant should submit a plan of proposed training for availing the fellowship.
  • For applications in areas that are new or currently do not exist in AIIMS, New Delhi, the proposal must come with specific justification from the HOD with evidence of need and possibility of continued practice after return from fellowship.
  • All necessary formalities with regard to visa application and overseas medical insurance cover should be taken care of by the Fellow.
  • AIIMS will grant leave of the kind due as per existing rules for faculty. The fellowship period will be eligible for consideration as on-duty leave for conferences/workshops, if available.
  • The Fellows will be required to execute a service bond of Rs. 5.00 lakh to AIIMS, New Delhi to serve the Institute for a period of at least 3 years after return from International fellowship.
  • If the Fellow does not return to India or gets a job overseas on completion of the
    fellowship or fails to fulfill any of the above requirements, no fellowship amount will be payable and any advance paid will be recoverable.
  • In the event of cancellation of travel ticket due to change of the date of visit/change of sector of journey any other reasons, the cancellation charges and difference of fare, if any, will be met by the Fellow.
  • Failure to complete the fellowship or premature return without a valid reason will lead to forfeiture and the candidate will not be paid any fellowship amount and will have to return any advance paid.
  • Failure to proceed on a fellowship (without a valid reason) after acceptance will lead to debarment for a 3 year period.
  • The Fellow should submit a final work report on the research and training activities undertaken in the foreign Laboratory/Institute during the fellowship period. This should be submitted within 6 weeks of his/her return.
