This flagship competitive intramural grant supports young investigators at the start of their career. Early career faculty (Assistant Professor and Associate Professor) and scientists can submit for this grant. The investigators are required to publish at least one paper in an international/national peer reviewed journal from the funded project. It is expected that the research work done in intra mural projects will lead to larger projects from extramural funding agencies.

Early career faculty (Assistant Professor and Associate Professor) & scientists can submit one research proposal per year. If previously funded, applicants can reapply once the prior project is completed.

Application Details:
- The upper limit of funding for individual project is INR 5,00,000 (five lacs) per annum.
- The funding duration of each project is one year which can be extended to a maximum of 2 years, on case to case basis after review of first year annual report.
- Investigators who have been funded any Intramural Project earlier can also apply if their previous project has been completed & its final report submitted to the Research Section.
- The same project, or a part of it, should not be submitted for funding to more than one funding agency.
- Proposals are to be submitted to the Research Section duely forwarded through the Head of the concerned department.
- Projects will be reviewed by an Intramural Project Review Committee (PRC) which will have two sub committees for i) basic sciences and ii) clinical sciences.
- Applicants are required to make a PowerPoint presentation of their research projects before the respective PRC.
- The comments/modifications suggested by the PRC will be communicated to the PI and should be incorporated into the proposal.
- After recommendation of the modified proposal by the PRC, projects will be sanctioned for funding.
- Applicants are advised to obtain statutory clearances as appropriate before sanction of funds. This includes ethical clearance from the Institute ethics committee and other clearances like biosafety/animal safety etc. depending on project.
- On submission of the ethical clearance certificatea project code number is granted by the research section to the PI.
- The funds are to be utilized only for purchase of consumables such as chemicals, kits, disposables etc.
- Any items covered under the learning resource allowance scheme of the faculty should not be procured using intra mural project funds.
- Utilization of funds for purchase of permanent equipment, stationery (office or, computer), photocopying or, postage is also not allowed.
- Neither employment of staff, nor registration of Ph.D. students is allowed under intra mural projects.
- Contingency advance cannot be drawn from these funds.
- Funds should be spent by 31st March of the year project was sanctioned for.
- The PI has to inform progress to the PRC every year by submitting an annual project report and by making presentation, if asked for.
