The Research Section has been celebrating Research Day every year. The annual event is dedicated to highlighting the breadth of research and depth of discovery at the Institute as it provides an excellent opportunity to students, residents, scientists and faculty to showcase their research work/poster and platform presentations. In addition, mentoring talks and panel discussion are also organized.
Third Annual AIIMS Research Day was celebrated on 30th January 2024. The 3rd Research Day included the following activities:
- Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary to Govt. of India, Department of Health Research and Director General, ICMR delivered the AIIMS Goden Jubilee Oration titled “Medical Research in India- vision and action”.
- Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology and Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India delivered the AIIMS Silver Jubilee Oration titled “Harmonizing connections: Interorgan crosstalk for metabolic health”. The participation by Faculty and students was phenomenal highlighting the centre stage which research occupies for members of this institution.
- One interactive session entitled “How career planning is different for women: a session for all genders” was delivered by Dr. Shubha Tole, Professor of Neurobiology at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.
- Keynote addresses were delivered on “How to build a hippocampus” by Dr. Shubha Tole, Professor of Neurobiology at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai;
- AIIMS values the commitment and contributions of all its students, residents, scientists, and faculty over the years, who have contributed to make this institute a leader in the country in terms of research output indices.
- The research efforts of AIIMS Faculty were recognized by giving following awards:
- Research Excellence Awards (Year – 2022)
- Oncology Awards (Year – 2022)
- ‘Shobha Seth Wenger’ Distinguished Chair in Gynaecologic Oncology
- Dr. Surendra K Chawla Award for best paper in CTVS
- Infosys chair in oncology
- In addition, there were Best paper presentations (12 platform and 596 poster) in various categories of students such as PhD., MBBS, BSc., MSc., Nursing, Junior Resident, Senior Resident and Project Staff.
- A peoples’ choice award’ was also given for the most liked poster.
A total of 596 posters showcasing the research carried out by AIIMS students were displayed and evaluated. Prizes were awarded to the best oral papers and posters in various categories (MBBS, BSc. MSc., Nursing, PhD, JR, SR, SDG and Project Staff).

- Also, 15 devices developed by the AIIMS Faculty were displayed in the Exhibition and 3 were awarded.
- There was a vibrant Panel Discussion, which was moderated by Prof Anurag Agrawal, Dean Biosciences and Health Research, Ashoka University. The panel consisted of senior medical research policy makers – Dr. Prashant Warier, Co-founder & CEO, Qure.a,.Dr. Anurag Rathore, Chemical Engineering, IIT Delhi, Dr. Lipika Dey, Professor of Ashoka University, Mr. Rajroshan Sawhney, Google Research Partnership, Health AI Lead, APAC, Dr. Krithika Rangarajan, Associate Professor, AIIMS, New Delhi The panelists discussed the Artificial Intelligence, Big data, Innovative Science: Transforming Health Care. The Institute has been widely acknowledged and recognized for its research quality, ethics and applicability. The faculty, scientists and students of AIIMS have been largely instrumental in maintaining this culture of cutting-edge research. The Institute has outstanding scientific talent with diverse research interests.
AIIMS EXCELLENCE AWARDS and ONCOLOGY Awards (2022)
The Research Section has implemented a programme to recognize quality research outputs of its faculty/scientists by awarding “AIIMS Excellence Awards” and Oncology Awards. There are two categories of prizes: Basic/Fundamental Science and clinical/Applied Science. Original publications published in peer reviewed index journals are eligible for the said awards. A total number of Publication received for the year 2022 (Clinical Science Category:59, Basic Science Category: 41 & Oncology Clinical Category: 21, Oncology Basic Category: 14).
