2022 – Second AIIMS Annual Research Day

Second Annual AIIMS Research Day was celebrated on 18th October, 2022. The 2nd Research Day included the following activities:

• Dr. Chandan K. Sen, J. Stanley Battersby Chair and Professor of Surgery, Director of the Indiana Center for Regenerative Medicine and Engineering, delivered the AIIMS Silver Jubilee Oration titled “Adaptive Physiological Tissue Reprogramming”. The participation by Faculty and students was phenomenal highlighting the centre stage which research occupies for members of this institution.
  One Distinguished Guest lecture entitled ““Reflections of Science in the age of Corona Virus” was delivered by Prof. P Balaram, Former Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.
• Two Keynote addresses were delivered on “Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare” by Dr. Amit Mehndiratta, Joint Faculty, Biomedical Engineering at IITD & AIIMS, Delhi; and “One Health” by Dr. Rajesh Bhatia, Regional technical Advisor to Food & Agricultural Organization.
• AIIMS values the commitment and contributions of all its students, residents, scientists, and faculty over the years, who have contributed to make this institute a leader in the country in terms of research output indices.
• The research efforts of AIIMS Faculty were recognized by giving following awards:
  • Research Excellence Awards (Year – 2020 & 2021)
  • Oncology Awards (Year – 2020 & 2021)
  • ‘Shobha Seth Wenger’ Distinguished Chair in Gynaecologic Oncology
  • In addition, there were Best paper presentations (12 platform and 357 poster) in various categories of students such as PhD., MBBS, MSc, MD/MS/MDS.
  • A peoples’ choice – Critics’ award was also given for the most liked poster.
  • A total of 357 posters showcasing the research carried out by AIIMS students were displayed and evaluated. A total of 80 awards in all were given in these student categories. A Peoples’ choice – Critics’ Award for Posters was also given.
  • Also, 15 devices developed by the AIIMS Faculty were displayed in the Exhibition and 3 were awarded.
• There was a vibrant Panel Discussion, which was moderated by Prof. Rakesh Aggarwal, Director, JIPMER, Puducherry. The panel consisted of senior medical research policy makers – Dr. Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology; Dr. Chitra Sarkar, Former Dean (Research), AIIMS, Delhi; Dr. Balram Bhargava, Chief, CTC, AIIMS, Delhi, and Former Director General, ICMR, Dr. Shirshendu Mukherjee, Director, BIRAC; Dr. Shinjini Bhatnagar, Professor of Eminence, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, Faridabad. The panelists discussed the Future of Biomedical innovation and Entrepreneurship in India.

The Institute has been widely acknowledged and recognized for its research quality, ethics and applicability. The faculty, scientists and students of AIIMS have been largely instrumental in maintaining this culture of cutting-edge research. The Institute has outstanding scientific talent with diverse research interests.
In this regard, the 2nd edition of the “Directory of Research Interests of Faculty and Scientists” at AIIMS was released during the 2nd Annual Research Day. This edition showcases the major research contributions and projects of the Faculty and Scientists of the Institute. This is an important compendium through which the various research groups can learn about the research interests and capabilities of the other departments and connect to each other on common as well as complimentary research domains.

Prizes were awarded to the best oral papers and posters in various categories (MBBS, BSc. MSc., PhD, JR, SR).
